What does 'detailing' actually involve?

Detailing goes well beyond a regular wash — it's the thorough cleaning, decontamination, correction and protection of both the inside and outside of your car. Depending on the tier, that can include iron removal, clay bar decontamination, interior steam cleaning, engine bay cleaning, paint correction, A/C deep cleaning and protective coatings. Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum each cover a different scope.

What is clay bar decontamination?

Accepted Answer

After a regular wash, your paint can still hold bonded contaminants — embedded particles like brake dust (iron fallout), tar, overspray and rail dust — that feel rough under your hand. A clay bar, used with a lubricant, glides over the paint and lifts these out without scratching, leaving a glass-smooth surface. It's a standard step before paint correction, ceramic coating or PPF.

What's the difference between single-stage and multi-stage (3-step) paint correction?

Accepted Answer

Single-stage correction uses one compound and pad for a quick pass — good for very light marks. Multi-stage (3-step) correction uses three progressively finer compounds and pads — heavy cut, then medium, then fine — to work through deeper defects before finishing with the highest possible gloss. It's the difference between a quick touch-up and a genuine restoration of the paint's depth and clarity. What are swirl marks, oxidation and water spots?

Swirl marks are fine circular scratches, usually from improper washing or drying, visible as a 'halo' under direct light. Oxidation is the dulling or fading of paint (or headlights) from UV exposure over time. Water spots are mineral deposits left when water evaporates on a surface, which can etch into paint or glass if left untreated. All three are addressed during multi-stage paint correction.

What is 'paint refinement' or 'jeweling'?

What's the two-bucket wash method, and why does it matter?

Accepted Answer

One bucket holds clean soapy water for your wash mitt; the other holds clean rinse water. Rinsing the mitt in the second bucket before reloading it with soap means dirt and grit picked up from the car never gets transferred back onto the paint — significantly reducing the risk of new swirl marks during washing. It's our standard wash method from Bronze upward.

What does 'decontamination' actually remove?

Decontamination targets things a normal wash can't shift: iron fallout (embedded brake dust, often visible as tiny orange specks), tar and adhesive residue, and bonded surface grime lifted with a clay bar. It's the prep work that gets paint back to a 'like-new' surface before any correction or protection is applied.

What's the difference between 'heat rejection' and 'IRR'?

Heat rejection (sometimes shown as TSER — Total Solar Energy Rejected) measures how much of the sun's total energy a film blocks, including UV, visible light and infrared. IRR (Infrared Rejection) isolates just the infrared portion — the wavelength mainly responsible for the heat you feel on your skin. A film can post a high overall heat-rejection number partly by darkening the glass, without strong IRR. If a genuinely cooler cabin is your priority, IRR is the more meaningful number to look at.

PPF vs ceramic coating — which one do I actually need?

They solve different problems, and most cars we protect properly get both. Ceramic coating adds gloss, hydrophobicity and chemical resistance, but it's still only microns thick — a stone chip or key scratch goes straight through it. PPF is a much thicker urethane film that actually absorbs impacts (and self-heals light scratches), but it doesn't add the deep gloss ceramic gives. How long does window tint last?

Genuine Llumar ceramic film is built to last the lifetime of the vehicle when installed correctly and not physically damaged — it doesn't fade, bubble or turn purple the way cheap dyed film does over a few years. Nairobi's UV exposure is hard on tint, which is exactly why we only fit ceramic, not dyed or carbon film.

How often should I detail my car?

Accepted Answer

Chinese (Value) gives solid all-round heat and UV rejection at an accessible price. Llumar CTX (Mid) is a true ceramic film rated around 70% total heat rejection with good infrared performance. Llumar IRX / 3M Crystalline (Top) is built to maximise infrared rejection — typically 85%+ — on top of ~86%+ overall heat rejection, for the coolest cabin at any given shade. All three block around 99% of UV rays.

What's the difference between saloon and SUV pricing?

SUV pricing covers larger vehicles — SUVs, pickups, vans and 7-seaters — which take roughly 30% more time and product than a standard sedan or hatchback. Not sure which applies to your car? Just ask when booking.

How long will my service take?

Accepted Answer

Turnaround depends on the package: Bronze takes 45–60 minutes, Silver around 2–3 hours, and Gold is a full-day 6–8 hour job. Paint Correction on its own is also a 6–8 hour job. Platinum (with ceramic coating) needs 2–5 days including cure time, and PPF or tint installs typically run half a day to a full day depending on coverage.

Can I combine services?

Yes. Paint Correction is our recommended first step before any PPF or ceramic coating, since it gives the cleanest possible surface for the film or coating to bond to. Glass Coating can be added on top of any tier, and New Car Detailing is recommended as the very first service on a new or freshly imported car — before Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum.

Kenya doesn't have a single, formally gazetted VLT (darkness) limit for private vehicles — the Traffic Act mainly bars reflective material on windscreens and windows, and explicit tint restrictions target public service vehicles. In practice, installers and traffic officers commonly reference lighter tints (roughly 50–70% VLT) on front windows as the safe, compliant standard, with more room to go darker on rear windows. Does window tint interfere with car electronics or radio/GPS signal?
