What is graphene coating?

Short answer

Graphene coating is a ceramic paint coating with graphene oxide blended into the standard silicon-dioxide (SiO2) formula. Graphene is valued for conducting heat well and adding mechanical strength, so graphene-enhanced coatings are generally formulated for better heat dissipation, extra slickness and deeper gloss than a standard ceramic coating. It is still a chemical coating, not physical armour — it doesn't stop stone chips.

What graphene adds to a ceramic coating

Standard ceramic coatings are built on silicon dioxide (SiO2), which cures into a hard, glossy, hydrophobic layer. Graphene coatings add graphene oxide to that base. Graphene is a material known for excellent thermal conductivity and mechanical strength, and coating manufacturers apply those properties to help the coating dissipate heat rather than trap it, and to add a slicker, glossier finish.

What it does not change

Graphene coating is still a chemical layer, not a physical one. It will not stop stone chips, keying, or deep scratches — that protection comes from paint protection film (PPF), not any ceramic-based product. Like standard ceramic, it also won't correct existing swirl marks or oxidation; the paint should be properly corrected before any coating goes on, or the coating just seals in the flaws.

Maintenance

Care is the same as any quality ceramic coating: pH-neutral shampoo, soft wash media, and avoiding the first week of exposure to water while it fully cures. A coating-safe topper or quick detailer maintains slickness between washes on either tier.
